Executive Resume

For some executive job openings, employers receive hundreds and even thousands of resumes.
When you are looking for a job, how can you best promote yourself?

The well-informed executive knows that a stellar resume is the first stage towards getting the interview over hundreds of potential applicants.

Recognize that your executive resume is your "advertisement" and you are the "product"! Yes, you must sell yourself! This "advertisement" must convince the prospective employer to pick up the phone and schedule an interview with you.

Override Your Competition with Your Executive Resume

  • Ask yourself this question: Why should a company hire me over other highly qualified applicants? Your answer may be - you have taken under-performing corporations or divisions and turned them around to profitability in a short time frame. Make this the vocal message and theme of your entire executive resume.
  • Begin your executive resume with a powerfully crafted mission statement of what you can bring to an organization.
  • Proceed by listing no more than three dynamic accomplishments to give your mission statement credibility.
  • Reveal the essential characteristics in your curriculum vitae: leadership, communication, teamwork, decision-making and problem solving.
  • Answer this questions:
    • Are you an innovator?
    • Are you approachable?
    • Are you open-minded?
    • Can you communicate effectively orally and in a written format?
    • Can you work with others?
    • What examples of teamwork can you illustrate from the past?
    • What have you accomplished to play into the success of the enterprises for whom you have worked?
    • When have you seen the big picture and created a change that had a positive and quantifiable final result?
  • Do not make the mistake of listing your job responsibilities and accomplishments in the professional experience section. Bring into your executive resume some of the challenges that you were confronted with and detail how you overcame these challenges.
  • Have as a minimum three friends review your executive resume.
